Description
Join us for a picnic and walk through the cultural landscape of Torna Hällestad!
In this Local Discovery, we will take you to the cultural landscape that extends around the village of Torna Hällestad, about 15 kilometers to the east of Lund. You will see the typical meadows and fields of the Skåne countryside, some amazing beech forests, and also discover that our region is not really as flat as one could think.
We will leave the cars at the parking lot of the Dalby stenbrott lake, and from there start out along the ridge of Knivsåsen, continue over the ridge of Södra Hällestadsåsen and from there reach the abandoned railroad of Dalby-Torna Hällestad that is nowadays a beautiful walkway. Entering the Torna Hällestad village, we will make a stop at the Lanthandel - a lanthandel used to be the centre of every village, today they are mostly replaced by supermarkets - where you can shop your picnic if you have not brought everything you need. From there we will cross another ridge, and stop for lunch in a pasture with a panoramic view over the Vomb-Revinge-Flyinge landscape. The path then continues towards the eastern part of the Skrylle natural reserve, commonly known as "Trollskogen", and from there we will turn back towards our starting point, passing through the fields between the Södra and Norra Hällestadsåsen, and eventually allows for a refreshing bath in the Dalby stenbrott - due to the depth of the lake, it is not rarely swimmable into september.
Altogether, the walk will cover about 11 km. It is not suitable for strollers, and involves a few spots of steep ascents.
