New season with Local Discoveries - Spring schedule announced with 5 destinations

During 2018, the Eos Cares Local Discoveries initiative organized 15 trips that allowed for 183 people to get out into the countryside and discover many of the amazing nature areas that Lund is surrounded by. This year, a new team is in place to take the initiative even further, and we can already present the spring schedule with excursions on every second Sunday, starting March 31st.

The carrying idea behind the Local Discoveries is this: In order to truly enjoy the place where you are living, you also need to know the hidden secrets of its surroundings - the places to visit, the cultural landscape and the beauty and vastness that brings a deeper attachment to our region. Many people in Lund, especially newly arrived, have not had a chance to discover what is outside the city borders, and would not be able to bring themselves into the countryside on their own. With the Local Discoveries, Eos Cares is providing an opportunity for people to find out that the Skåne region is much more than plains and potato fields; if you know where to go, you have a magnificent landscape and a number of mind-blowing green oases just outside your doorstep.

Furthermore, from an integration perspective, we have found this format of casual nature excursions to be a great way for people to meet. A common introduction, car sharing and an extensive time together in a calm and inspiring outdoor setting allows for some good social bonding. As with all of Eos Cares activities, we aim to unite people of all backgrounds and society groups. The nature trips also align with our Sustainability initiative, where we try to draw attention to the connection between our interior peace of mind and our habits & behaviors that put footprints on our external environment.

Moving on to the schedule, for the spring of 2019 we are aiming for the following destinations:

31 March: Häckebergasjön

A repeat of last spring's discovery, the lake of Häckeberga is the heart of the vast nature area extending over the southern part of Romeleåsen.

14 April: Romeleåsen

A new destination, here we are aiming for the northern part of Romeleåsen where we will climb the hillside and enter the deep forests.

28 April: Söderåsen

Northern Europes largest cohesive leaf forest was the target of two of our trips last year, this time we will experience it during the weekend when the entire panorama explodes into green.

12 May: Hovdala

Another new destination, starting out from the Hovdala castle and extending through the nature landscape to the south of Finjasjön.

26 May: Kullaberg

The Kullaberg peninsula with the cliffs, the ocean and the beech forests is another must-see for everyone passing through Skåne, we are much delighted to add this to the program for the first time.

Finally, our method for reaching these destinations is car sharing. This means that for every trip, we try to recruit as many drivers as possible who can bring their own cars, then we count the number of empty seats in these cars and offer them to people who do not have any transportation on their own. We always meet up in Eoshallen for a cup of coffee, some brief informations about the trip and to get introduced to each other before we embark. Of course, the basis for making the trips successful is that we have a good amount of drivers that are participating, and we continuously encourage everyone involved to spread word and to reach out to more people who can provide the transport.
